Meeting 2 : Blended Teaching and Learning and Technology Enhance Language Learning

 

        Information communication technology in English language teaching or often called ICT in ELT is the activities of using technologies, such as; computer, internet, radio, TV, and smartphone in order to communicate, create and disseminate, store and manage information in English language teaching and learning. Based on the explanation, there’s a bunch of delivering learning types :

·         CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning)

·         MALL (Mobile Assisted Language Learning)

·         RALL (Robot Assisted Language Learning)

·         TELL (Technology Enhanced Language Learning)

·         Blended Learning (Combination of face to face and online learning)

·   Flipped Learning (Student autonomous online learning before face to face classroom meeting)

·         LMS (Learning Management System, online classroom learning platforms)

·         TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge)

·         SAMR (Subtitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition)

        ICT in ELT still reaps many pros and cons since it has advantages and disadvantages that surround it. Such as :

-        Advantages

·         ICT improves students and teachers digital literacy skills

·         ICT increases students and teachers positive attitude to technology application

·  ICT increase students critical and creative thinking and accommodate collaborative learning

-        Disadvantages

·         High cost and maintenance

·         Low teachers knowledge and attitude towards ICT in ELT

·         Insufficient policy and institutional
