·         Relevance

Quiz Maker lets us create an interactive quizzes for academic or learning purposes. It's offers a wide range of features for quiz creation. This application is beneficial for teaching English through online because teacher can give their students assignment or homework through Quiz Maker more easily.

·         Feedback

Teachers can make a questions in the form of multiple choice, text, drop lists, and others. Teacher can provide an explanation for each answer option so that students can evaluate their mistakes by themselves if they chooses the wrong answer.

·         Thinking Skill

The thinking ability that will be obtained by students depends on the teacher who made the questions, because this application frees the teacher to make questions according to the learning objectives that he designed. For example, if the teacher wants his students to learn about problem solving and explanation skills, the teacher can make a questions in the form of text or description.

·         Ease of Use

This application is very easy to access for everyone including students because they only need to open the link that has been given by teacher, after that they will join and be able to answer the questions immediately.

·         Engagement

Student is highly motivated to use Quiz Maker rather than the other application because its relatively easy to access and they can see their score instantly after they finishes the task.

·         Sharing

There is no sharing feature so the only person who know all of the students answer it's just the question maker which is teacher.

Quiz Maker is a free application that can be used without any subscription, but there is limitations such as you only able to create 10 questions, the maximum response is only 25, and there are ads that might be little bit annoying.

You can prepare a quiz with either the exam mode for evaluation or the challenge mode for fun. You can assign a topic to the quiz and define the level of knowledge to prepare effective quizzes. You can also customize the scoring policy, such as awarding points for each correct answer.

The impact of Quiz Maker for ELT is in order to provide a simple and easy place to assess your students through different kinds of form.

·         The Advantage

The reason why Quiz Maker is the best quiz application because it can lets you set a time limit for the quiz and the individual questions, you can hide the editing option for the questions to protect the test's integrity. You can also import some questions from the text file to save your time. Besides that, Quiz Maker show the correct answer after each question which very useful for students. It also give students “result” as a percentage of correct answers. Thus they get their feedback while their doubts are still fresh on their minds.

·         The Limitation

Sometimes ads or banners with inappropriate content is pop out while you open the application. In the other hand, you also have to take the time to conduct a proper screening to make sure the quizzes and links are work properly.

    Quiz applications such as Quiz Maker are useful for sharpening and restoring students’ memory of the previous materials such as grammar and vocabulary because this method is relate with the previous material that has been taught. Therefore, teachers use this application just to measure the level of understanding their students at the end of the learning process.

Falou is a good education app for those who want to learn English or any other languages such as  French, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, and Russian.

·         Feedback

After they do speaking practice, learners can get feedback or comment on his pronunciation from the native speakers.

·         Thinking Skill

Falou is the right choice for sharpening your thinking skills, especially for students who want to learn more specifically in listening and speaking skills. Students can involved in conversation that provides in the video while practicing their speaking skills.

·         Ease of Use

Falou is simple to install. After downloading the app, you may sign up with either your email address or your Facebook account. You can choose from a range of languages to study once you've signed up.

·         Engagement

The engagement of this app is pretty good because Falou uses a variety of methods to teach languages, including flashcards, audio lessons, and quizzes. Lessons are short and manageable, so you can learn a little bit at a time. The platform is also responsive, meaning it works well on both desktop and mobile devices.

Since the assignment is already provided, the users is only need to do the tasks, so there is no sharing option for hand out some video, assignment, etc.

Teacher also has a big database of common words that teachers can use to develop lesson plans.

The influence of Falou is huge because it can encourage students to learn English independently, they can learn by themselves without teacher and still get feedback directly from the native speakers.

·         The Advantage

Learners can use this app anywhere and everytime, the display is very interesting. and the lessons are short so it don't waste much time.

·         The Limitation

The application is not technically free, you have to subscribe at least $9.99/month. On the other hand, there will be less interaction with the real person such as teacher or the other students.

    Falou is a language learning app for improving your speaking skills. They only focus on listening and   speaking abilities through the conversation of flight schedule, taxi driver, architect, or any other kinds   of job.

Application Review (Whatsapp)

Whatsapp (Social Media)



·         Relevance

Whatsapp is pretty useful for education because there is a group chat which can be used as a medium for teaching and learning.

·         Feedback

Teacher can be able to give their students feedback whether through group or personal chat.

·         Thinking Skill

However, Whatsapp is designed as a communication tool that is not focused on learning. However, Whatsapp provides a sharing feature which supports the learning process, so this application can be used as a learning medium.

·         Ease of Use

This application is really easy to operate since we often using it in every single day for communicate with our family, friends, etc.

·         Engagement

Whatsapp is one of the most utilize application in our daily basis. Thus, student will never mind to learn via whatsapp because they don't feel the tense feeling of study so it's makes them more relax.

·         Sharing

Teacher and student can share anything in Whatsapp, starts from image, video, material, PPT, and link. And all of those data will automatically saved in your smartphone unless you delete it.

·         Accessibility & Cost

You can download this application freely in Google Play Store without any charge, you just need mobile data or wifi in order to online and learn via Whatsapp.

·         How to Use/Apply it in ELT

Whatsapp can be used as an alternative learning for ELT because you can create group chat just like a class in online forum. Over there, teacher can upload the learning materials and students have to studied it independently. Besides that, they also be able to communicate and discuss about all of the material every time.

·         The Impact of this Application in ELT

As time goes by, students will be more independent since they have to understand the course by themselves just like a student centered learning.

·         The Advantage

The learning process is more flexible for both student and teacher.

·         The Limitation

Whatsapp didn't provide such an online meeting like Zoom or Google Meet which can accommodate up to hundreds of people in one meeting.

·         Language Skills or Components

Basically we can learn all of the language skills through the Whatsapp application, but reading and writing skills are the most suitable skills to apply. One of the most frequently Whatsapp features used is text or messages which is good for sharpening students' grammar skills.

Meeting 2 : Blended Teaching and Learning and Technology Enhance Language Learning

 

        Information communication technology in English language teaching or often called ICT in ELT is the activities of using technologies, such as; computer, internet, radio, TV, and smartphone in order to communicate, create and disseminate, store and manage information in English language teaching and learning. Based on the explanation, there’s a bunch of delivering learning types :

·         CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning)

·         MALL (Mobile Assisted Language Learning)

·         RALL (Robot Assisted Language Learning)

·         TELL (Technology Enhanced Language Learning)

·         Blended Learning (Combination of face to face and online learning)

·   Flipped Learning (Student autonomous online learning before face to face classroom meeting)

·         LMS (Learning Management System, online classroom learning platforms)

·         TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge)

·         SAMR (Subtitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition)

        ICT in ELT still reaps many pros and cons since it has advantages and disadvantages that surround it. Such as :

-        Advantages

·         ICT improves students and teachers digital literacy skills

·         ICT increases students and teachers positive attitude to technology application

·  ICT increase students critical and creative thinking and accommodate collaborative learning

-        Disadvantages

·         High cost and maintenance

·         Low teachers knowledge and attitude towards ICT in ELT

·         Insufficient policy and institutional

Meeting 1 : 21st Century Education Framework and Digital Literacy for Teacher Education

 

        People who born during 1995-2010 is a part of Generation Z, so that basically we are Gen Z. Unlike the previous generations, we born with technology around us. Nowadays, technology is like a part of our life that can’t be released from our grasp even for a second. Because people in the 21st century live in a technology and media-driven environment. It's all marked by some kinds of characteristics, which is; access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools, and the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale. That's why the effective citizens and workers of the 21st century must be able to exhibit a range of functional and critical thinking skills related to information, media and technology.

        Talking about technology, we have to know what is digital literacy especially for teacher education. Digital literacy is the ability to use digital technology, communications tools, and networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information in order to function in a knowledge society.
